Do you like art?

Well, yes, though I'm no expert.

There's a long wall near my place where someone has painted scenes of old Hanoi.

It makes a grey little lane much more cheerful, and a couple of the paintings still stop me in my tracks.

I guess I like art that I just stumble across.

Do you like visiting art galleries?

Small ones, yes.

Honestly, big museums are a bit overwhelming, but in a quiet little gallery I can wander round at my own pace.

Actually, last month Trang and I found a hidden gem, a tiny exhibition upstairs in a coffee shop near campus.

We stayed nearly two hours, which is a record for us.

Do you want to be an artist?

Oh no, not me.

I haven't got an artistic bone in my body.

I mean, my stick figures still look exactly like they did in primary school.

If anything, I'd be more useful behind the scenes, like running social media for a small gallery.

That's closer to what I'm studying anyway.

Do you like modern art or traditional art?

Traditional, I suppose.

We've had the same folk woodblock print of a rooster at home for as long as I can remember.

We hang it up every Tet.

Modern art usually goes over my head.

A pile of bricks in a museum is just a pile of bricks to me.

Mind you, maybe it just needs explaining.
