Did you have any opportunities to take part in new activities as a child?

Actually, a few.

When I was in primary school, a teacher started a badminton club after class, and I signed up on a whim.

I'd never held a racket before.

I mean, I was terrible at first, but I stuck with it, and I still play now.

Should people try as many different things as they can?

I'd say yes, within reason.

It's the best way to find out what suits you, and it means stepping out of your comfort zone.

Having said that, if you do too much at once, you never get properly good at anything.

A friend of mine joined four clubs in her first year and quit them all by Tet.

Do you like taking on new opportunities?

Mostly, yes.

The thing is, I'm not the type to jump straight in, so I like to think things through.

Last year, a girl from the year above asked me to tutor her cousin's two kids.

I was nervous, but I took the plunge, and I've been teaching them every weekend since.

So yeah, I'm glad I did.

Do you often get new opportunities?

Oh, now and then.

Most of them come through the university, like a talk by a guest speaker or a short course.

Places get snapped up really fast, though.

To be fair, I don't check the faculty page as often as I should.
