Do you like singing? Why?

Oh, I do, even though I'm not very good.

I belt out songs under my helmet on the way home from work.

The only people who can hear me are the ones next to me at red lights.

You know, it really helps me get the stress of the day out of my system.

Have you ever learnt how to sing?

Well, not properly.

I joined the choir at primary school for a term.

The teacher politely asked me to stand at the back and just mouth the words.

I wasn't offended, to be fair, because she was right.

I've never had a singing lesson since.

I just sing along and hope for the best.

Who do you want to sing for?

My mum, definitely.

She hums old Hue folk songs while she cooks, so I'd love to learn one properly and sing it for her birthday.

If I actually pulled it off, she'd be thrilled.

Honestly, that's a long shot.

I reckon she'd just laugh and tell the whole street.

Do you think singing can bring happiness to people?

Well, yes, from what I've seen.

Some evenings, a few students bring a guitar down to the beach near my flat and start singing.

Soon total strangers are joining in, and it's a case of the more the merrier.

I mean, it's hard to stay grumpy when you're singing with a crowd.
