When did you start using social media?

Well, when I was thirteen.

My parents had a rule, no accounts before that.

Then everybody in my class signed up at the same time, so I just followed the crowd.

I mean, I didn't even know what to write on my profile.

Have you ever posted anything on social media?

Now and then, but I mostly just scroll.

Actually, the most useful thing I've ever posted was in a university group, when I needed some second-hand textbooks.

I asked on the off chance that an older student had a spare set.

Three people replied within an hour, so yeah, it worked.

Do you think you spend too much time on social media?

Honestly, yes, a little.

I only mean to check it for five minutes, and somehow an hour goes by.

The thing is, I can't help picking up my phone whenever it lights up, even when I'm studying.

So now I leave it in my bag at the library.

What do people often do on social media?

Mostly they share bits of their daily life, but it's basically a highlight reel, you know, nice meals and trips.

A few fish for compliments by posting a selfie and saying they look awful.

But I'd say the main thing is messaging, since most of our chats happen on those apps anyway.

Do your friends use social media?

Yes, pretty much all of them.

We've got a group chat that never really goes quiet, and we bond over silly videos more than anything else.

I guess it's how we stay close now that everyone's busy.

Oh, and my roommate sends me clips even when she's sitting two metres away.
