Câu hỏi và câu trả lời mẫu

Do you often go to street markets?

Yes, two or three times a week.

There's a small market in the alley next to my building, and the fruit is actually cheaper than in the shops.

I mean, when you're a student on a tight budget, every little helps.

Plus, it's right on my way home from class.

What do people usually buy at street markets?

Fresh food, mainly, I'd say.

A lot of older people wouldn't dream of buying meat or fish anywhere else.

They want to see exactly what they're getting.

The bigger markets sell clothes and household stuff too, though.

In fact, I got my winter jacket at one for next to nothing.

Are there many street markets in your country?

Oh, loads.

In Hanoi there are little markets dotted around almost every neighbourhood, and it's the same in smaller cities like Nam Dinh.

Back home, my mum goes at the crack of dawn, before she opens the shop.

The thing is, everything's freshest early on, and some markets are almost empty by midday.

What's the difference between street markets and supermarkets?

There's a world of difference, really.

Basically, in a supermarket you grab what you need and pay, and nobody says a word to you.

At a market you chat with the seller and haggle over the price, so it feels more personal.

Mind you, in summer I sometimes go to the supermarket just for the air conditioning.
