What subjects are you studying?

Well, I'm in my third year, studying business administration at a university in Hanoi.

This term I'm taking marketing and accounting, plus a module on running a small business.

Accounting is the hardest, I'd say, because there are so many rules to remember.

On top of that, we have a group project almost every week.

Do you like your subject?

Yes, I do, but it took me a while to warm to it.

I mean, in my first year the theory was pretty dry.

Now that we're doing real case studies, I'm much more into it.

Actually, a lot of what we learn reminds me of how my parents run their little grocery shop.

Why did you choose to study that subject?

Honestly, it was mostly my teacher's idea.

I was good at maths, so she steered me towards business.

My parents were all for it too, since they hoped I'd find a stable job.

Looking back, I reckon it was the right call, even if it didn't feel like it at the start.

Do you think that your subject is popular in your country?

Oh, definitely.

It's one of the most popular majors, because people think it opens a lot of doors.

Having said that, there's fierce competition for good jobs, since there are so many of us.

Quite a few students from the years above me now work in totally different fields.

Do you have any plans for your studies in the next five years?

Yes, a few, actually.

My main goal right now is an IELTS certificate, because I can't graduate without one.

After that, I'd love to do a master's, maybe in marketing.

Then again, I haven't really decided, so I'm keeping my options open.

Do you prefer to study in the morning or in the afternoon?

The morning, for sure.

I like to get up early, because I've got a clear head then.

Plus, my roommate's still asleep, so it's nice and quiet.

After lunch I'm kind of sleepy, so I save easier tasks for the afternoon.

Mind you, the night before an exam I often stay up late, even though I'm not really a night owl.
